High frequency sound absorption is accomplished by allowing sound wave energy to pass through the micro pores in the finished surface, thereafter, dissipating into heat energy in the mineral wool.
Low frequency sound absorption is accomplished when sound wave energy hits the mass of mineral particles on the finished surface, causing the finished “skin” to vibrate in a diaphragmatic action against the mineral wool backing, creating a “spring” action. Again, this transforms and dissipates sound energy into heat energy.
The BASWAphon Acoustical Finish System is available in 3 system thicknesses. The 30mm (1.18”) system has an NRC Rating of 0.75, the 40mm (1.57”) system has an NRC Rating of 0.80 and the 68mm (2.68”) system has an NRC Rating of 0.85.
BASWAphon also provides an additional 5 to 7 points to a STC Rating.
The chart below illustrates the random incidence absorption coefficient for the 3 system thicknesses. Coefficient testing is made with the BASWAphon systems applied to 5/8” gypsum board, following ASTM C423 Sound Absorption Test guidelines.

BASWAphon Acoustical Finish System may provide Contribution Points in the following LEED Categories:
EA Credit 1 – Optimized Energy Performance
MR Credit 2 – Construction Waste Management
MR Credit 4 – Recycled Content
MR Credit 5 – Regional Materials
IEQ Credit 3.1 – Green Cleaning
IEQ Credit 4 – Low Emitting Materials
IEQ Credit 7.1 – Thermal Comfort
IEQ Credit 8.1/2.4 – Daylight and Views
EQ Credit 9 – Enhanced Acoustical Performance
The BASWAphon system is comprised of 5 components: a 25mm, 35mm or 63mm thick mineral wool supporting panel (74% post consumer recycled glass with a phenol-resin binder), a factory applied pre-coating of glass micro-spheres (75% post consumer recycled glass with a vinyl acetate-copolymer binder), a Pre-Fill made of glass micro-spheres used to fill seams between supporting panels (75% post consumer recycled glass with a vinyl acetate-copolymer binder), a trowel applied Base Coat (95% recycled marble aggregate with a vinyl acetate-copolymer binder), and a Top Coat (95% recycled marble aggregate with a vinyl acetate-copolymer binder).
In a typical installation less than 3% of panels are discarded due to small left-over cut-off pieces. Panel scraps are acceptable in mixed-glass recycling facilities, plastic pails are recyclable. Unused panels, Base and Top Coats are saved for use on another project.
BASWAphon’s light weight simplifies handling and reduces delivery and installation energy costs.
Beginning in 2010, BASWAphon Top Coat and Base 407 will be manufactured in Cleveland, Ohio.

Designers of buildings with open floor plans often desire a seamless sound absorptive finish on ceilings in a color to match or compliment furnishings. With an unlimited pallet of integral colors and a variety of finishes, BASWAphon excels in creating a superior acoustical space that meets designers’ aesthetical requirements.

For all architectural designs, including flat, inclined, curved, vaulted or domed surfaces, BASWAphon creates a precise and clear acoustical experience by shortening reverberation times through its exceptional sound absorption properties.
The perfect acoustical environment. BASWAphon delivers the ultimate acoustical
experience by creating environments where sound is highly intelligible. Installed in prestigious architectural, museum and boardroom spaces, BASWAphon’s seamless surface compliments the architect’s vision.
The strikingly beautiful appearance of BASWAphon’s natural white color can be enhanced further with the addition of pigments creating an unlimited pallet of colors. The Classic Finish’s smooth hand troweled appearance, the Frosted Finish’s light sand texture or the Clean Finish’s moisture resistant surface properties provides designers and acoustical consultants a wide variety of seamless acoustical solutions.
BASWAphon can be used in spas and natatoriums.
BASWAphon is field-applied using a 6 step process. The Classic smooth finish with the appearance of hand-troweled plaster, the Frosted finish with a washable, light sand texture and the Clean smooth finish with its moisture resistant qualities can be applied to sloped, curved, domed and flat surfaces.
• Field applied; no field measurements, no shop drawings, no long lead times – panels and pails
are in stock and available for immediate delivery and installation.
• Flat, inclined, curved, compound curved, domed or vaulted surfaces can be treated.
• High sound absorption coefficients dramatically shorten reverberation times, greatly increasing
the sound intelligibility of a space.
• Integral coloring offers the opportunity to match or compliment any interior decor.
• Class A fire rated; the system can be installed in any building type or classification.
• Due to BASWAphon’s use of 95% post consumer recycled materials, no off-gassing, high light
reflectance and a high R-value, BASWAphon may provide LEED Contribution Points.
1. The beveled edge, factory pre-coated mineral wool panels are cut to size and adhered to a stable substrate with a plaster based adhesive.
2. Trowel BASWAphon Pre-Fill into the “V” groove seams formed by the bevels on the edges of the panels.
3. Sand the panels and Pre-Filled seams.
4. The BASWAphon Base Coat is applied, gauged, smoothed with a trowel and allowed to dry.
5. Sand the Base Coat.
6. Classic Top Coat and Clean finish coats are spray applied, gauged, smoothed with a trowel an allowed to dry. The Frosted finish is spray applied.
BASWAphon is a Class A fire rated interior finish meeting all the requirements of UL E-84.
